Enclave Gas Economy Details

January 30, 2012

Info

Enclave is the car maker’s flagship crossover vehicle that has brought in a lot of versatility and accolades for the company. Thanks to the successful vehicle, today the car maker has decent respect around the globe, especially in Asian markets like China where the brand is a rage.

The vehicle is based on the most recent platform of big crossovers from GM and is powered by a potent 3.6liter V6 power plant, which is mated to a six speed automatic gearbox. The cabin offers three row seating, which is one of the most favourite features, and 116 cubit feet of cargo room, which is more than most of its rivals.

The Figures

Here we will take a closer look at Buick Enclave mpg details and compare them with others in the segment.

Enclave made its debut as 2008 model and was marketed in two trim variants CX and CXL. Both the models were offered in either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive configurations and came powered by a 3.6liter V6 engine. Both the variants were recorded to offer 16mpg within city limits and 24mpg on highways.

For 2009, the mechanicals remained the same, but we saw a marginal boost of 1 mpg on city roads, making it 17mpg/24mpg for city/highway for front wheel drive vehicles. The combined figure was recorded at 19mpg. For all wheel drive models, the figures were 16mpg/22mpg/18mpg.

The 2010 Enclave crossover offered the same EPA ratings as its precursors and we did not see any changes in mpg figures even in 2011 and the latest 2012 Enclave SUVs either.

A lot of these figures also depend on the driving styling, maintenance, the number of trips you make, driving conditions etc.

Many users have even reported 23mpg to 25mpg on highways at an average speed of 70mph to 75mph.

The Competitors

Now, let us see how Buick Enclave mpg figures fare against its rivals. GM’s own GMC Acadia is one of the top rivals of Enclave, but this vehicle offers almost the same EPA figures as Enclave; so from economy point of view both of them can be counted on. Traverse from SUV is another cousin of these two vehicles and all of them are based on the same platform and are powered by the same 3.6liter V6 engine.

This means that the economy figures of even Traverse do not differ from Enclave. Moving outside GM, the Japanese Acura MDX is one of the best in the world; however its EPA figures are less at 16mpg on city roads and 21mpg on highways. Mazda CX-9, another Japanese crossover, is neck to neck with Enclave, Acadia, and Traverse at 17mpg/24mpg.
